What is Clay Shooting ?

Clay pigeon shooting is the art of shooting at special flying targets, known as clay pigeons or clay targets, with a shotgun.

Who is Clay Shooting suitable for ?

Clay pigeon shooting is currently enjoyed by all, from 10 to 80 year olds, both male and female. You don't need any special skills or experience, our expert instructors will be with you at all times and all equipment is provided so you will not have to worry about that either!

What about safety ?

In Shooting SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT.

You will receive a full safety briefing from our instructor before your start. Whether you're a complete novice with no equipment or an experienced shot the same rules apply. Alcohol or drugs must not be consumed or taken before or during shooting.

What type on guns are used ?

Most shooting grounds use 12 or 20 Bore Over and Under shotguns which are specially designed for shooting clays.

What type of ammunition do you use ?

We shoot clays with shotgun cartridges or shells, basically these are small plastic tubes filled with small metal pellets (approx 400).

Does the gun kick ?

Yes there is a certain amount of recoil with shotguns, but nothing to be concerned with, most shooting grounds use low recoil cartridges which reduces recoil to a minimum.

What sort of shooting can I expect ?

The type of Shooting is based around a popular Clay Shooting discipline called Sporting (ESP), targets are thrown at different angles, distances and speeds, roughly representing quarry that would be shot at in the field.

Can I bring my friends to watch?

Spectators are more than welcome. Please advise us in advance.

Can I get refreshments ?

Our facilities differ by venue, although the majority of our Shooting Grounds do offer tea and coffee. Some even have a café on site for lunch. Please ask if you require details on a specific venue.

We ask you to dress suitably for the countryside and time of the year. We recommend sturdy walking type shoes/boots, Sunglasses and a waterproof Jacket.

What days are you open ?

All our venues are open on Saturdays (subject to availability); some are also available on Sundays and selected weekdays. This will vary depending upon the venue.
