Drive a Classic Diesel Locomotive - 8 Mile Shared Experience

Step aboard for an unforgettable shared driving experience and take turns at the controls of a classic British diesel locomotive on a heritage railway.
At the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway, you and your fellow participant will experience the power of a Type 4 Class 47. Delivering around 2,500 bhp, these impressive locomotives have been hauling trains across Britain since the 1960s. Following a full safety briefing, you’ll each enjoy time in the cab, sharing driving duties along the scenic route between Chinnor and Princes Risborough.

Alternatively, at the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway, you’ll take turns driving a Type 3 Class 37. Famous for its unmistakable sound and rugged reliability, this much-loved locomotive offers a truly hands-on experience through the striking South Wales landscape, guided by an expert crew.

Perfect for sharing with a friend or family member (select the for TWO option), this 8-mile experience combines heritage, power and teamwork for a memorable day on the rails.

The Package

•⁠ ⁠Ex BR Type 3 or 4 Diesel Locomotive driving experience
•⁠ ⁠⁠Experience runs with 2 participants alongside the train crew
•⁠ ⁠Drive the train for 8 miles (approx. 60 minutes at the controls)
•⁠ ⁠Welcome, introduction and safety briefing
•⁠ ⁠Familiarisation session with the locomotive to show how it works and the operating of its controls
•⁠ ⁠The loco is a 'light engine' (no carriages)
•⁠ ⁠Guidance from an experienced train driving instructor
•⁠ ⁠⁠Allow approximately two hours for this experience, the train will drive the 8 mile round trip to Princes Risborough Station and back twice
